Reading a Smeg model code

Every FAB code states the cabinet, the hinge and the colour. Once you can read it, comparing two listings takes a second.

The cabinet

The number after FAB is the cabinet. FAB10 is the 50cm bar fridge. FAB28, FAB30 and FAB32 are all 60cm wide, the FAB28 being a single door with an internal freezer box and the other two being two-door fridge-freezers. FAB50 is the 80cm one.

The hinge

R is a right-hand hinge, L is a left-hand hinge. Sadec lists the right-hand versions because they suit most South African kitchen layouts. Left-hinge models exist for nearly every colour and can be ordered in.

The colour

The last two letters are the finish: BL black, CR cream, WH white, RD red, PB pastel blue, PG pastel green, PK pink, LI lime, OR orange, BE beige, YW yellow. So FAB30RRD5 reads as a right-hinged red FAB30.

Questions people ask before ordering

Is this genuine Smeg?

Yes. Sadec Online Shoppers has sold genuine Smeg since 2021. Every model listed here carries its real Smeg model code, and the specification on each page is Smeg's own.

What does delivery cost?

Delivery is free to any address in South Africa, with no minimum spend. Large appliances such as refrigerators and cookers are booked with you before dispatch so somebody is there to receive them.

What is the difference between FAB28, FAB30 and FAB32?

All three are 60cm wide. The FAB28 is a single-door fridge with a freezer compartment inside the fridge cavity. The FAB30 and FAB32 are two-door fridge-freezers with the freezer behind its own door, the FAB32 being the taller cabinet. The FAB10 is the 50cm bar fridge and the FAB50 is the 80cm wide model.

What do the letters after the model number mean?

They state the hinge and the colour. R is a right-hand hinge and L is a left-hand hinge, then two letters for the finish: BL black, CR cream, WH white, RD red, PB pastel blue, PG pastel green, PK pink, LI lime, OR orange, BE beige, YW yellow. So FAB30RRD5 is a right-hinged red FAB30.

Which hinge do you stock?

Right-hand hinge as standard, which suits most South African kitchen layouts. Smeg builds most FAB models in a left-hinge version too. If you need the door to open the other way, call 063 944 0330 or email info@sadecshopers.co.za and we will order it in.

Is the item in stock?

Sadec sources on order rather than holding every colour on a shelf, so lead times vary by model. Confirm stock and a delivery date on 063 944 0330 or info@sadecshopers.co.za before you order if the timing matters.

Can I return it?

You have seven days to cancel an online order under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, and the Consumer Protection Act covers anything that arrives faulty. Contact us and we will arrange the collection.

Smeg is the Italian manufacturer behind the 50’s Style range – the rounded, colour-matched kettles, toasters and FAB fridges that turned kitchen appliances into furniture. Sadec Online Shoppers is an independent South African retailer of that range. We buy genuine, new, boxed Smeg stock and resell it, which is why our prices sit below South African list. There are 230 models here, from a R1,400 non-stick frying pan to the R126,900 Blu Mediterraneo FAB28.

Countertop appliances are the bulk of the range. Smeg toasters are R2,561 for the two-slice and R3,354 for the four-slice, kettles at R2,561 for the 1.7L 50’s Style, cookware and pots at R1,400, and blenders at R1,800. For coffee there are espresso machines from R6,899, filter coffee machines from R3,499 and coffee grinders from R2,300, including the Dolce & Gabbana editions.

The large appliances run from bar fridge to full kitchen. Smeg refrigerators cover 59 models, starting at R15,850 for the FAB10 50cm bar fridge and running up through the FAB28, FAB32 and FAB50. Freestanding cookers start at R10,800 for the Classica 60cm gas and go to the 110cm Victoria and Portofino. There are also freezers from R10,500, microwave ovens from R5,000 and built-in and freestanding wine coolers from R46,699.

Buying from an independent retailer changes two things worth knowing up front. Prices are set by us, not by Smeg South Africa, so the same model is usually several hundred to several thousand rand cheaper here. After-sales support also runs through us: every appliance carries the six-month warranty against defects that the Consumer Protection Act gives you as a buyer, and we handle repair, replacement or refund directly. Countertop appliances ship free anywhere in South Africa. Large appliances travel by freight, so we confirm the delivery arrangement with you before dispatch – see the delivery page or call 063 944 0330. New to the store? Our customer reviews and about page explain who we are.

Smeg appliances in South Africa: common questions

Is Smeg sold in South Africa?

Yes. Smeg has an official South African arm, and independent retailers like Sadec Online Shoppers stock the same genuine units, usually well below list price.

Are Sadec’s Smeg appliances genuine?

Yes. Everything here is genuine Smeg stock, not a replica or a lookalike brand. The specifications are Smeg’s; the pricing is ours.

How does delivery work?

Free delivery anywhere in South Africa with no minimum spend. Cross-border shipping into the SADC region is quoted per order.

Is Sadec Online Shoppers an authorised Smeg dealer?

No, and we do not claim to be. We are an independent South African retailer: we buy genuine, new, boxed Smeg stock and resell it. That is exactly why the prices here sit below Smeg South Africa list. What changes is where your after-sales support comes from - it runs through us, not through a Smeg service agent.

What warranty do I get on a Smeg appliance from Sadec?

The six-month warranty against defects that the South African Consumer Protection Act gives every buyer, and it sits with us as the seller. If an appliance is faulty in that window you can ask for a repair, a replacement or a refund. Call 063 944 0330 or email before returning anything so we can arrange collection.

Why is Smeg cheaper at Sadec than at other South African retailers?

Because we are a small independent operation with no showroom overheads and we buy stock in directly. A 1.7L 50’s Style kettle is R2,561 here against a R4,199 list price, and the two-slice toaster is R2,561 against the same list - a flat 39% off across the range. The unit in the box is identical.

How long does delivery take?

Countertop appliances - kettles, toasters, blenders, coffee machines, cookware - ship free anywhere in South Africa, normally within three to five working days. Cookers, fridges, freezers and wine coolers travel by freight and we confirm timing and access with you before dispatch.

Can I see a Smeg appliance before I buy?

We are an online store based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, so there is no showroom floor. Every listing carries the model code, dimensions and full specification, and you can call 063 944 0330 to talk through the differences between two models before ordering.
