Smeg Microwave Ovens

Six Smeg microwaves, from R5,000 to R9,800. The choice splits cleanly in two: two countertop machines that plug in and sit on a worktop, and three built-in units that drop into a 60 cm housing and cannot stand loose on a counter. Get that decision right first, because it is the one that cannot be undone after the cabinetry is cut.The one nobody points out: only one microwave in this range actually cooks. The MOE34CXI2 34L combi carries a 2500 W convection element and a fan alongside its 1100 W microwave and 1100 W grill, so it roasts and bakes like a small oven. Every other model here reheats and browns. At R5,000 against a Smeg South Africa list price of R14,999 it is also the largest cavity and the lowest price in the category, which is an odd shape for a range and worth knowing before you spend more on less machine.Countertop. The MOE25B in Dark Inox is the straightforward one at R5,500 – 25 litres, 900 W, a 1000 W grill element and a ceramic enamel cavity, with knobs rather than a touch panel. The MOE34CXI2 in stainless steel is the 34 litre combi above. Both take a full dinner plate on a 31.5 cm turntable.Built-in. All three are 25 litres and 900 W with a 1000 W quartz grill, so the difference is the front. The FMI425X Selezione at R7,000 is brushed stainless with a bar handle and two rack levels. The FMI125N Linea in black at R9,800 and the FMI125G Linea in Neptune Grey at R9,500 are flat glass with touch controls and no handle at all – the door opens on an electrical push-button, which is what makes a Linea column line up flush.A word on wattage: Smeg quotes microwave effective power, so 900 W here is real output, not connected load. Do not compare it against a competitor quoting input watts and conclude the Smeg is weaker.Everything is genuine, boxed Smeg stock. Smeg microwaves in South Africa: common questions

Does Smeg make a 50s Style microwave?

No. Smeg has never produced a microwave in the 50s Style range that the FAB fridges, kettles and toasters belong to. The countertop models are from the Universale line and the built-in models are Selezione or Linea. If you want the retro look in the kitchen, it comes from the fridge, kettle and toaster rather than the microwave.

What is the difference between a countertop and a built-in Smeg microwave?

A countertop model plugs into a wall socket and stands on a worktop. A built-in model is designed to be enclosed in a 60 cm cabinet housing with clearance behind it for the cooling fan, and it is finished on the front face only. A built-in unit standing loose on a counter will overheat, so the decision has to be made before the cabinetry is built.

Which Smeg microwave has a grill?

All of them except the Neptune Grey Linea. The MOE25B has a 1000 W heating-element grill, the MOE34CXI2 has an 1100 W grill, and the FMI425X and FMI125N both use a 1000 W quartz grill, which comes up to temperature faster.

Which Smeg microwave can bake or roast?

Only the MOE34CXI2 34 litre combi. It adds a 2500 W circular convection element and a fan, which turns it into a small fan oven that can roast a chicken or bake a tray of scones. The other five models reheat, defrost and grill but do not bake.

What wattage are Smeg microwaves?

900 W of effective microwave power on the MOE25B and on all three built-in models, and 1100 W on the MOE34CXI2 combi, which also runs on an inverter for genuine low-power defrosting. Smeg quotes effective output rather than connected load, so the figure is directly comparable to real cooking power.

What does a Smeg microwave cost in South Africa?

From R5,000 to R9,800 here. The 34 litre combi is R5,000 against a Smeg South Africa list price of R14,999, the 25 litre countertop is R5,500, and the built-in models run R7,000 to R9,800. We are an independent retailer buying genuine boxed stock, which is why these sit below list.

Can I build the countertop model into a cabinet?

No. The MOE25B and MOE34CXI2 vent through their own casing and need air on all sides. Enclosing one voids the warranty and shortens the life of the magnetron. If the microwave has to disappear into the cabinetry, buy one of the three built-in models.

Do you deliver Smeg microwaves outside South Africa?

Yes. Delivery anywhere in South Africa is free with no minimum spend. We also ship to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Zambia, quoted per order with a duty estimate included so the price you agree is the landed price. Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini are inside SACU, so no customs duty applies.
